Dear Aunt Madelyn, Ginny, Lynn and Roy,
I am so sorry to hear about Karen. I know how much you loved her and I’m certain you're all very proud of her. I know I am. I recall once in between her elected terms I actually considered driving to where she lived in Ohio to surprise her and support her re-election. I certainly wish I had done so. I’m so proud of her service to families. I’m praying for all of you. I pray that God’s peace that “passes all understanding” will envelope you and carry each of you now and for all eternity.

Karen was my lawyer in 2002, who fought an 18 month custody battle for me to have joint custody of my kids. Their mother wanted full custody, and move them two counties away. Though because of Karen's hard work and dedication that didn't happen. After the divorce, and shared custody started, their mother's drinking caused her to be abusive towards the kids. Karen went on to fight for my family again. I ended up with full custody, and raising my kid's in a safe loving home. I shall be so ever so grateful to you Karen.

What a loss to the community. Judge Lawson was truly one of a kind among lawyers and tragically the legacy has been cut short. I had the privilege of being co-counsel with Karen in a very challenging case for Attorney General Betty Montgomery. I came away from that experience with a wonderful friend who can only be described as courageous, compassionate and competent. Years later I was in her court with a juvenile family member and her "lecture" to the child was firm, fair, and downright frightening...but the love came through as it always did when the Judge spoke. Boy I will miss her. Justice Bill O'Neill, Retired, Supreme Court of Ohio.

My family will always be so grateful for her kindness, fierceness and friendship. Without Karen our family would not be intact. In the late 80's fathers almost never won a custody battle. Karen was fearless and never gave up. I often think what could have happened if she did not succeed. Her favorite response to our doubts were always "You betcha"!
