Obituary of James R. Evans

James “Satch” R. Evans, age 87 of Painesville, passed away February 19, 2023.  He was born March 24, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to the late George and Marie (Hurley) Evans. 

 

Satch was an avid golfer and enjoyed the game whether it was playing or watching it on tv. He spent many days at Painesville Country Club and played in the club championship winning it twice. He graduated from the first class of Riverside High School where he excelled at golf and basketball.  He was proud of being on the first trophy that Riverside received as a new school for his state golf achievement.  He retired from Dairymen’s formerly known as Lockie Lee Dairy and later worked for Puritan Bakery in Painesville.  Satch was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Essex.

 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet (Ellenburg); children James T. (Donna) Evans, Jennifer (Jack) Hogan, Tina (Anthony) Teixeira and Evie Evans; 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Satch was preceded in death by his son Timothy Evans, brothers George and Thomas and sister Patty Tecil.

 

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.   Rev. Travis Henry will officiate.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Painesville.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Riverside High School Athletics Boosters, 585 Riverside Drive, Painesville, Ohio 44077.
