Obituary of Rev. Mark E. Heuser

The Rev. Mark E. Heuser, Emeritus, age 72 of Painesville Twp., passed away December 16, 2022 at Hospice of the Western Reserve David Simpson House in Cleveland.  He was born December 31, 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Jack and Noreene (Long) Heuser. 

The Rev. Mark Heuser is a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Painesville, Ohio, having retired from full-time ministry in 2018. Prior to retirement, Rev. Heuser served as Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Vancouver, WA. He also served as Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Rochester Hills, MI. Prior to ordination, Rev. Heuser worked as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at a church in Kansas City, MO.A second-career student, Rev. Heuser graduated from Concordia Seminary-St. Louis with a MA in Systematic Theology in 1997. He served as a convertible vicar at St. John – Rochester Hills, MI. Rev. Heuser's undergraduate degree is a BA in theology from Valparaiso University in 1972. He is a graduate of Lutheran High School East in Cleveland, Ohio. Rev. Heuser is a trained Intentional Interim Minister. He also has served in many circuit and district activities including the Pastoral Conference Committee, District Convention Committees, Chairman District Task Force on Aging, and Synodical Convention Delegate. Prior to his ministry with the church, he served as Vice President of Key Bank.  In his spare time he enjoyed boating and had just completed restoration of his 32 foot boat which he was looking forward to getting back in the water.  He was a member and Past Commodore of Lake County Yacht Club and was a member of the Blue Gavel.  He also served on the Home Owners Association of Lake Erie Shores as Treasurer.  Rev Heuser was a proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard.   

Rev. Heuser is survived by his wife of 49 years Donna (Mihaly) Heuser. They were married November 18, 1973.  He also leaves his daughter Sarah Anne Heuser and son Matthew Mark (Rhoda) Heuser.  He looked forward to the arrival of his granddaughter Alana Rose Heuser, due on January 11, 2023.  He also leaves his sisters Susan Heuser, Bronwyn (David) Barricklow and Meg (Kim) Rescorla and nieces and nephews Joshua, Elizabeth, Zachary and Joel Barricklow, Luke, Scott and Leah Rescorla, Kimberly, Kathleen and Johnny Roehling.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 18th from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, 508 Mentor Avenue, Painesville.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Dr. Kurt Ziemann and Rev. Travis Henry will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or Concordia Center for the Family - Mission Ethiopia, where he served as Treasurer on its Board of Directors.
