Obituary of Cleophas Gaston

Cleophas Gaston, born in Norton, Virginia on November 14, 1946 to the late Viola Litton and Calvin Hale.  Cleophas departed this life at the age of 75, on July 30, 2022, after an extended illness at Hillcrest Hospital. 

In the early 1960's the family moved to Painesville, Ohio where Cleophas graduated from Harvey High School.  She worked at Lake East Hospital and later met and married the late Willie Gaston.  To that union four children were born. 

Cleophas was a faithful member of Greater Faith Tabernacle until her illness.  Her calling and gift from God was serving others, and she was diligent in doing so.  Cleophas loved attending church, listening to gospel music, cooking, going to garage sales, shopping, decorating, and most of all she loved her family.   Cleophas's favorite bible verse was Psalms 121:1-2.

Surviving her death are children: Timothy Gaston, Sandra Gaston, Romona Gaston, Terrence Litton and Jammie Litton; sisters: Bertha Marlowe of Cleveland, OH, Ella Stroder of Painesville, OH, Barbara Schelton of Cleveland, OH, Joyce Williams of Cleveland, OH, Elizabeth Benson of Cleveland, OH, twenty-three (23) grandchildren, twenty (20) great grandchildren, step-daughter Bettyjean Williams, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, best friend Martha Smith and many other dear friends.

Cleophas was preceded in death by her husband Willie Gaston, mother Viola Hale-Litton, father Calvin Hale, step-father Milford R. Litton, Sr., siblings, Randolph Litton, Jr., Viola Hale-Gridiron, Deborah Litton, son Derry Gaston, grandson Hayden Gaston, mother and father-in-law Rose and John Bell-Gaston, uncles Cecil Huffaker, Hubert Huffaker, Morris Huffaker, Rev. Floyd C. Huffaker, Willie Huffaker, Sr., Rev. Billy W. Huffaker, Robert Huffaker, aunts Dora Christopher, Bertha Hoyle, Mary Davis, Teresia Huffaker, and beloved sister-in-law Susie Talley and her best friend Brenda Marlin-Owens. 

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 428 W. Jackson Street, Painesville.  Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Painesville.
