Obituary of John Wayne Jenkins

John Wayne Jenkins, 64, of Painesville, Ohio, passed away on June 5th, 2022. He was born to mother Pauline, on November 18th, 1957 in Joliet, Illinois and raised with Joseph “Bo” McNair. In 1960, his family moved to Perry, Ohio and shortly after relocated to Painesville, Ohio where John attended Huntington Elementary. He continued his education in Painesville schools, later becoming a star Basketball and Football player at Harvey High School. He attended Baldwin Wallace University, and fate brought him back to Painesville, Ohio where he could be frequently seen at the local recreation parks pitching no-hitters and hitting home runs in local softball leagues. In 1998, he met and fell in love with Christine “Chris” Wilson and married two years later on February 9th, 2000. John was always the life of the party and the star of the show. He found fulfillment in helping others. He coached pigtail league softball and peewee football. As you can imagine, someone with the nickname “Big John”, he liked to cook. He could likely be found grilling and would pride himself with his fried chicken wings and BBQ ribs. John is survived by his sons, Ryan Scott (Kahley) and Devin Harden, granddaughter Aria Scott. Along with his siblings Sandy Williams and Peggy Jeffries and stepsiblings Daniel Mann and Joseph Eudell. He is proceeded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings Phyllis Young, Mary Collins, Nathan Jenkins, Joyce “Rita” Jenkins, Barbara Ann Jeffries, Cathy Ann Jeffries, and Jenette Jeffries. Services will be held Saturday, June 11th at First Church Congregational, 22 Liberty Street, Painesville. Calling hours begin at 10:30AM directly followed by the funeral at 11:30AM.
