Obituary of William Allen Stein

WILLIAM “Bill” STEIN, died peacefully on January 8, 2022 after several months of declining health. Bill was born in Olean, New York on April 30, 1939, to Floyd Stein and Virginia (Hoy) Stein. While attending Shaw High School, Bill spent his summer months at Culver Military Academy in Indiana. After graduating in 1957, he went on to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in teaching in 1962. In August of 1963, he married Janet Louise Skilton and they were married for 53 years, until Janet’s passing in 2016. His first few years of teaching were spent at Woodridge Schools in the Akron area where he taught history. Several years later, he attended the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio and became an ordained Methodist minister. He spent several years serving at Mentor Plains Methodist Church and always enjoyed giving and listening to a good sermon. He spent the remainder of his teaching career at Mentor Public Schools, teaching history at Memorial Junior High School in Mentor, Ohio. Ever the world traveler and history buff, after leaving education, Bill spent the rest of his career as a travel agent. He loved to plan trips and took many vacations across the US, Canada and Europe. Bill was also an active member of Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, where he would often give tours of the historical church after services on Sundays. Bill was the loving father of Pam Schuellerman (David), and proud Grandpa of Ella, Henry, Calvin and Cara Schuellerman. He will be laid to rest after a private service with immediate family and interred with his wife Janet at Old Stone Church, Cleveland, Ohio.
