Obituary of George Lee Rossi, Sr.

George Lee Rossi Sr. was born November 12, 1939 in Painesville, Ohio to Lee M. Rossi and Alice (Palmer) Rossi. He passed away December 25th, 2021 at the age of 82 at Tri Point Medical Center after a brief illness. He resided in Painesville from 1939 until 1980, he married Judy Longbons in 1959 and was with her until 1978, he remarried to Kay L (Loudin-Lefelhoc) Rossi in 1980 and they moved to Grand River, Ohio. He and Kay then moved to Florida in early 2001, he decided in 2021 to move back to Mentor, Ohio to be closer to family. George was a graduate of TW Harvey High School in 1957. He continued his education at Kent State in electrical engineering in Kent, Ohio. He worked as a equipment assembler and maintenance at Morton Salt in Grand River, He then later began employment at Uniroyal in Fairport Ohio where he worked until 1974, He then went to work for Mining tools (Sandvik Tools , Hugh’s Tool, Smith Itl.) as a maintenance supervisor where he remained until 1991. He then moved into business ownership when he purchased Convoy Tire and Services Inc. in Painesville, Ohio from his neighbors Bob and Sharlene Conley in 1992 . His youngest son John purchased Convoy Tire in late 2005 and George then retired and went to live in Florida full time. . George was always into auto repairs and maintenance work, he restored several cars from high school into the mid 1970’s. He also drag raced in the late 1950’s up to 1960 when his eldest son was born. He built engines for cars and his race boats, He remade and modified propellers to make his boats faster, made his own trim system and trim tabs. He was a driver or co driver (throttle man) during his offshore boat racing career from 1971 to 1988 and member of GLOPRA, the APBA and several time regional champion, In 1975 he was APBA Production I National Champion in the #66 Sea Twister, he started pleasure boating in 1966 continued pleasure boating until 2010 or so. George was a yacht club member and commandant at Grand River Yacht Club for many years, a member of the Fraternal order of Police in Ohio and Florida, He was also a member of the Elks in Ohio and then in Florida. He served on Grand River Council for many years, doing port authority work, police commissioner and council president to name a few. George is survived by his youngest son John (Theresa) Rossi, stepson Keith (Amy Gerber) Lefelhoc, Grandchildren Natasha (Randy) Hibbard, George (Rene Snyder) Rossi III, Justin (Sarah) Rossi, Anthony Lefelhoc, Allen Lefelhoc and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Kay L Rossi in March 2019, his older son George (Buddy) Rossi Jr. in 2018, brother Ted Rossi, sister Johanna Rossi Browning, sister Louise Rossi Codi, his father Lee, mother Alice Rossi, and first wife Judy Longbons Dunbar in 2019. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio.
