William Aston, Sr.

Obituary of William G. Aston, Sr.

William G. Aston, Sr., age 92 passed away December 4, 2021 at Grand River Health Care in Painesville after a brief illness . He was born January 8, 1929 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania to the late William and Helen (Lipscomb) Aston. He was a lifelong Painesville resident. Dad, Papa, "Este", was employed for over 47 years at Bill Smith Oldsmobile in Painesville in the Body Repair Shop. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran serving in the Phillipines 1946-1947. He enjoyed fishing, building and flying model airplanes, drawing pictures, photography, archery and hunting. Dad's brothers and sisters always called him "Este" to us was Dad and Papa. He was an avid fisherman in his earlier years on Saturdays he would pick up his fishing mates, Tommy, Dante, Al Jr and Eric, to go fishing at the "flats" pond in Painesville and at Fairport Harbor. Though they enjoyed fishing they also were looking forward to the lunches he would pack. Of course with an additional 20 great grandchildren and 11 great great-greats there were plenty of fishing mates. Even during the spring and summer at the age of 92 he would drive himself to Painesville Recreation Park and sometimes Grand River/Fairport just to see if anyone was fishing. Dad also enjoyed going hunting with his brother Warren. At picnics Dad was also our "Chief Fire-Starter", for the grill which were usually last minute events we would have that he always enjoyed whether in one of the local parks or in the backyard of our homes. He claimed it was his Indian ancestors he learned the fire technique from. Through the years we did relieve him from his fire making duties. On Saturday and Sunday Dad would watch the football games he was a "Steelers" fan but he was also a "Cleveland Browns" and occasionally a "Ohio State" fan. He loved traveling to Houston to visit his son, grandchildren and great grandchildren where they would spend time fishing. He would also travel to his birthplace and home town, Carnegie was his favorite place to go every summer when he could to visit his brothers and sisters and other relatives. He enjoyed just sitting outside whether at his brother Warren's house or sitting on his sister Patty's front porch. We hope his spirit surrounds the hills of Carnegie and Ohio. "For Sure and For Real"...(Este/Dad quote which we all remember he would say) He is survived by his wife Hilda (Booth) Aston, son William (Sandra) Aston, Jr., daughters Klissa Threat, Patricia (Alphonso) Phillips, Evelyn Howard, Renee Aston and son Scott Aston. Brothers, Warren (Tammy), Kenny (Sareda), Raymond (Sandra), Sisters - Kim, Patty He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
