Obituary of Joann Clara Valentine

Joann C. Valentine, age 87 passed away September 29, 2021 at Vista Springs Quail Highlands in Concord. She was born April 6, 1934 in Weirton, West Virginia to the late Joseph E. and Elizabeth (Yobagy) Koval. Joann was a lifelong resident of Fairport Harbor and was an active member of the community. She enjoyed bowling at Rich's Lanes and served on the judging committee for the crowning of the Fairport Mardi Gras Queen. She also was active with the Fairport Lighthouse and was a longtime member of the Fairport Senior Center. She was also an active attendee at the Council Meetings and could be seen chatting with her neighbors who affectionately referred to her as the "Guardian of New Street". She raised her 5 children to value the importance of family and the joy in giving. SHe was happiest when her house was full of her children and family. Joann was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she served on the Rosary Guild. In 1998, she retired from the Lake County Sheriff's Office working in Records. She previously worked at Thall's Shoe Store in Fairport, Colgrove's Drug Store, Lake County Recorders Office and Diamond Shamrock. Joann is survived by her children David (Kathy) Valentine, Sharon (Jamie) Chamberlain, Robert (Michele) Valentine, Joann (Robert) McGill and Tim (Jen) Valentine. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, 1 niece, 2 nephews and their families as well as her brother-in-law Edward Foster of Hendersonville, N.C. She was preceded in death by her sister Bettie Foster and her cherished companion of 30+ years, Charlie Kovach. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville, Ohio 44077. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 316 Fifth Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio 44077. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve at, St. Anthony Rosary Guild or the Fairport Harbor Historical Society, 129 2nd Street, Fairport Harbor, Ohio 44077.
