Obituary of James B. Townsend

James B. Townsend (Jim), age 87, passed away on August 6, 2021 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Born in Porter, West Virginia on August 15, 1933, Jim served his country as a proud member of the United States Army. Jim operated Little Mountain Texaco, Arco and Marathon Service Station at Rt 84 and Little Mountain Road in Mentor, Ohio from the 1970s until the 1990s. He was a member of the Chardon Corvette Club and the Competition Corvette Club Association, and drove stock cars at Burton, Painesville and Cloverleaf Speedways in Ohio. Jim was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Associations of Meadville and Grove City, as well as the National Rifle Association. He shared these interests with his dream property in Atlantic, Pennsylvania with Kathleen "Kathy" Townsend, his wife of 63 years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marie Townsend in Ohio, brothers Dean Townsend of Alabama and Bill Townsend of Ohio, and sister Marcia Buxton of California. Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, sister Jackie Trefney of California, daughter Lisa Chess (Kevin) of Ohio, son David Townsend (Wendy) of Ohio, step-grandson Brendan Chess of Ohio, and grandson John David Townsend (Julie) of Ohio. A private family service was held at the Western Reserve Memorial Garden in Chesterland, Ohio on August 11, 2021 with John D. Townsend (grandson) as the officiant.
