Obituary of Madge Ellen Bergmann

Madge Ellen (Schenkel) Bergmann, 89, of Concord Twp., passed away peacefully on May 17, 2021, at Maple Ridge Senior Living in Willoughby. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Born on November 27, 1931 to Gilbert and Ethel Schenkel in Marietta, Ohio, she graduated from Marietta High School in 1949. Madge spent her early married years raising her two boys. After the boys reached their teenage years, she worked in a couple of part-time jobs before becoming a fulltime cook at Auburn Road Middle School. Later she assumed the Head cook position which she continued for many more years until she retired. After she met the love of her life, Dale Bergmann of Leetsdale, PA; they settled in Painesville where they raised their family. They celebrated 65 years of marriage last August. Madge was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, her sister Gilda Warden and her parents. She is survived by her brother, Bud Schenkel (Susan) of Marietta, sons, Mark (Saimi) of Washington, Utah, Jan (Colleen) of Leroy, grandchildren Christina, Katrina, Erik, Meghan, and Jennings; great-grandchildren Tyler, Melanie, Zooey, Zachary, Beckett, Naea, Ulla. Madge was an active member of her church’s Mission Society, Chancel Choir and a long-time president of the Women’s Circle Group. She was a member of the local Red Hat Society and often went to lunch with her neighborhood friends. Madge also enjoyed knitting blankets for her great-grandchildren. A rite of Christian burial will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor on Thursday, May 20 at noon. Visitation proceeds the service at 11 a.m. She will be interred at Western Reserve Memorial Garden in Chesterland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Stained-glass Window Restoration Project at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport.
