Obituary of Edward John Schira, Jr.

Edward John, "The Pooh", Schira Jr., 73 of Painesville, Ohio, passed away the morning of February 3, 2021 at his home with family members. Ed was born on the south side of Chicago to Joan and Edward Schira on August 5, 1947. He went to WIlliam J. Bogan High School and graduated in 1965. He joined the United States Army in the Military Police Division as a K-9 Handler after High School and was stationed at the Nike Missile Site in Painesville, Ohio. He worked as a Police Officer for the city of Painesville for 26 years and retired as Patrolman Badge # 1 in 1995. He was a Past President and Lifetime Member of the F.O.P. Lodge 90 in Painesville. He was also a member of both the Hungarian Culture Club and Moose Lodge 490 as well as the proud resident of barstool #1 at Silvestro's Depot Cafe for many years. In his free time, Ed enjoyed cars, motorcycles, softball and bowling but what he truly enjoyed most was socializing with his many friends. Ed is survived by his longtime partner Christine Stallard of Painesville, OH, son Bryan (Chaza) Schira of Chicago, stepdaughters Maureen (Cameron) Cooper and Tracy (Steve) Radice of Jupiter, FL, grandchildren Claire and Grant Schira of Chicago, Cameron and Meagan Cooper, Kyle and Christopher Radice of Jupiter, FL, sisters Cathy Kowalski and Lori (Ben) Webb of Tinley Park, IL, nephews Ron Kowalski of Tinley Park, IL Rob Molson of Highland, IN and Christopher (Dorothy) Kowalksi of Orland Park, IL. Ed is also survived by Christine's son Jason (Kaitlin) and their children Lincoln and Kennedy. Last by not least, Ed is survived by his beloved canine buddy Harley. He is preceded in death by his parents Joan Bolser and Edward Schira Sr., stepfather Joseph Bolser and sister Cheryl Vanzo. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Ohio Living Hospice Services. The family will receive friends Friday, February 5th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
