Obituary of Judith A. Longbons (Rossi) Dunbar

Judith A. Longbons (Rossi) Dunbar December 5th, 1938  to Oct 18, 2019

Judy Longbons Dunbar was born December 5th, 1938 in Texas. She was adopted by Thomas and Mabel Longbons after a court battle in 1940 with the actor Gregory Peck and his wife. They and her older brother John “Ben” Longbons moved to Painesville Ohio in 1942 when her father became the manager of Staley Corporations soy bean processing facility in Grand River, Ohio.

Judy grew up in Painesville and graduated from Harvey High School in 1956. She then went to Bowling Green for short period of time in 1957/58. She also worked at Bell telephone in Painesville as a switch board operator during the late 1950’s.

Judy returned to Mentor in 1958 and reunited with her High School friend George Rossi Sr. during a family vacation, whom she married in 1959 at United Methodist in Painesville. In April of 1960, they brought their first child into the world, naming him George Rossi Jr. They had a second son John Rossi in August 1963. Late in 1963 they bought there house on Walnut Street in Painesville were the family remained for over twenty years.

Over the years Judy stayed at home to raise her sons. During this time she enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, family trips to Cobaconk, Canada, a family trip to Disney in Florida in 1971, a vacation with her sons and her parents to Arizona in 1974. She also served on the PTA while her sons were in Elementary and Junior High School. She also was a camp volunteer for summer camp while her sons were in Elementary school. She also taught First aide and was a youth swimming instructor at the Painesville Roller rink in the late 1960’s.

She returned to work as a school bus driver in 1974. Judy then moved to become a special needs bus driver in 1975 driving children from the Lake county area to Mayfield where at that time no local schools handled Deaf, Blind or Handicapped children. She continued this work for several years.

In 1978 George and Judy decided to divorce. Judy then focused on working and being a Mother. Throughout her life, Judy was a mother figure to several of her sons’ friends and was charitable to many others. She also worked at a electronics assembly company in Mentor, Ohio. In 1982 she left Ohio and went to Texas for a short time.

She returned to Ohio in 1983. Upon her return she began getting involved in the Home Nurses Aide field. After her Father Tom passed in September 1987 she moved in with her Mom in Mentor and helped her until her passing in 1992. Shortly there after she moved to St James place mobile home park in Madison.

Shortly after her mother’s passing, Judy returned to work as a home health aide until she met and began dating Donald Dunbar in 2000. During this time she also still supported her family, by being a fan in the stands at the Painesville Speedway, watching her grand children and being involved as a great grandmother.

Don and Judy loved boating on Pymatuming Lake, attending flea markets and garage sales together. They also loved to travel, during the time they dated and went by RV on adventures for several months. Upon their return in 2007 they decided to get married but unfortunately not even a year later Don passed from cancer.

She continued to live in Andover, Ohio where her and Don moved while dating. She continued to be an involved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She unfortunately had a left side paralyzing stroke in January 2017. Her son George and his wife Kelly moved in to help her in March of that year. Unfortunately less than a year later her son George passed in February 2018 from cancer and Kelly of COPD in December 2018.  In February 2018 Judy moved to Brookdale of Mentor and remained there until April 2019.

In April as her health began to deteriorate, she was moved into Lake Med Nursing in Painesville. As of August she came down with pneumonia and her health just continued to deteriorate more. We then relocated her to Grand River health in late September and she then passed on October 18th.
