Obituary of Nancy Askew
Nancy Alvin Tomblin Askew born June 6, 1926 in McRae, Georgia born to Floyd and Lula Mae Tomblin. Her siblings include Floyd Tomblin Jr., Arthur Tomblin of Reidsville, Georgia,Emma Hicks (deceased), John Henry Tomblin (deceased), and Juanita Nelson (deceased). She went to her final rest on June 1, 2018 in Painesville, Ohio at the age of 91.
She was the beautiful mother of eleven children: Ella Garnes,Vera Johnson,and John Tomblin all of McRae,Georgia. She moved to Painesville,Ohio in 1948 where she met and married James D. Askew (deceased) and to this union she was blessed with Linda Nabers, Cynthia Hightower, James Askew, Robert Askew, Angela Williams (deceased), twins: Yvette Mclean, Yvonne Askew, and Catherine Askew, and her adopted son Bob Schwartz.
She loved the Lord and was therefore a spiritual woman. Her favorite gospel song was "Walk With Me Lord". Nancy enjoyed going to church and listening to a good sermon. Mrs. Askew was a member of of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church for nearly 50 years and more. She served on the Usher's Board and Missionary Board; she served and raised money for many Pastor's Anniversaries and other events; also served on the board of a non-profit organization.
Nancy enjoyed solving word puzzles and the companionship of her sister-in-law Margie Lawson, Vi Journigan, Juanita Johnson; cooking; dancing; and working in her garden with her favorite pet Oscar.
One of the hardest working, best dressed, best looking domestic worker in Lake County, Mrs. Askew retired after 45 years of employment in May 2006. Being a stickler for details and huge enthusiasm for perfection made her the best in the business.
In 2007, Nancy was diagnosed with alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Askew's daughter, Cynthia came to live with her on a full-time basis as her Mother's caregiver. She was assisted by other family members during this time.
She leaves to mourn her passing 36 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 10-11AM at New Hope Baptist Church, 428 W. Jackson St., Painesville, Ohio 44077 with the funeral service following at 11:00AM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
