Dean Francis Harvey, age 64 passed away on December 26, 2021. He was surrounded by loved ones who will forever miss his humor, laughter and his generous heart. Dean had a passionate love affair with country music and learned to play the guitar at the age of 8. He spent many hours with cousins and friends practicing in a tiny room at his Uncle Alton's home. He appeared on the Gene Carroll Show at the age of 11 with the Junior Mountaineers. During his youth, you could find Dean mastering the flea hop skate at the local roller rink. Dean went on to lead the band Young Promise from 1974 - 1977 and graduated from Riverside High School in 1975 earning a certificate in machine trades. Soon after he formed a 5 piece band, South Ridge Country, sometimes playing seven nights a week while working two other jobs and raising his two young sons. Dean had a true entrepreneurial spirit as he owned Dean's Home Maintenance from 1988 to 1991. Dean, along with brother, Mark and son, Adam, owned and operated Harvey Brothers Construction from 1995-2009. Often his son Nick would lend a hand, adding his special "spark", together they enjoyed building and remodeling homes. Dean retired from the Willoughby Surgery Center in 2020 where he was the Maintenance Supervisor. Over the years, Dean has enjoyed the camaraderie of many friends, listening to music and making at least one request for a Merle Haggard song. Dean was an amazing Papa and immensely loved his nine wonderful grandchildren. Devoted to his family, one of his greatest joys was attending his grandchildren's events, taking them fishing, camping, swimming, laughing and spending precious time with them. Survivors include his life partner, Susan Kain; sons, Adam (Angel) Harvey and Nick (Carole) Harvey, Stepdaughter’s Sara, Shawna and Samantha Kain, grandchildren, Luke, William, Owen, Nicolette, Angelina, Vincent Harvey, Samantha Dietz, Jaylen Kain and Elliott Kain; brother, Mark (Janine) Harvey; Uncle Dave Edgell; Niece and nephews, Mitchell Carpenter, Connor and Sean Powers, Steven and Danielle Harvey; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and former spouse of over 30 years, Brenda Harvey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Wanda (nee: Edgell) Harvey. A memorial gathering will be held on January 8, 2022 from 2 - 3p.m. with a service at 3p.m. at Johnson funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077.
