James D. Norton, age 92 of Chardon, died on January 21, 2019. He was born on December 11, 1926 to the late Jesse and Sadie (Smith) Norton in Rock Creek. He lived in Chardon before enlisting and serving in the Army. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. He graduated from Kent State University with a degree in business. James worked in material control for Pesco Products and Gould Inc until his retirement in 1984. He and Patricia worked tirelessly for The Arc serving on many levy committees to raise awareness and improve services for developmentally disabled youth and adults. He was an avid fisherman and card player and loved a good joke. In retirement he thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors are his sons, William Norton, Thomas (Melisa) Norton, Ann (Joseph) Halpin; 5 grandchildren, Jon, Emma, and Connor Norton, Patrick (Emily) Halpin, and Molly Halpin; and great grandson, Henry Halpin.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Ann; son James Jr., step mother, Sophia Norton; and sisters, Ina Ford and Dorothy Sandella.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 3-5PM with a funeral service following at 5:00PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077. A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 10:00 at the Chapel at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland.
