Obituary of William Smith
Mr. William J. Smith, age 91 of Wickliffe, passed away November 24, 2017 at Altercare of Mentor. He was born July 7, 1926 in Cleveland to the late John and Augusta (Pechauer) Smith. He grew up in the Collinwood neighborhood and attended Collinwood High School.
Mr. Smith was very involved in the Collinwood Memories group as well as the Tug Association and LST 552. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wickliffe. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing a meal and listening to Polka music. He was the owner of Bill Smith Sprinkler Systems and had also worked as a truck driver.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II.
He is survived by his son Thomas (Cindy) Smith; grandchildren Kelsey (Brad) Hruska and Justin (fiancée Madison) Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife Sue, brothers Edward, John and Walter and sister Bertha McGivney.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, (opposite Lake Erie College), Painesville.
Prayer services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
