Robert James Trexler, 74, of Mentor on the Lake passed away at home Monday morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 13, 1943 to the late William and Vera Trexler. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy, stepson Steven Dodgson (Jessica), stepdaughters Mary Dodgson and Michele (Danny) Thacker, grandchildren Heather, Keri, Butch, Kelsey, Melissa, Katy, and Thomas, great grandchildren Zander, Breana, and Deaglan, siblings, Dianne (Jerry) Judd, Tim (Lina) Trexler, Jack Trexler and Sheree (Tom) Besselman, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Vera Trexler and brother Daniel.
Robert was a lifelong resident of Lake County. He graduated from Riverside High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was the owner of Trexler Drywall, a former member of the VFW Post 7754, AMVETS, Hungarian Culture Club, American Slovenian Club, and the Lake County Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved attending the ISMA supermodified races with his wife. He was a Civil War buff and loved western movies and listening to music.
Visitation will be Friday, November 24, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077. Funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery with military honors.
