Sgt. Willie Long, age 72 of Painesville, died on September 6, 2017 at his home. He was born on June 30, 1945 in Stone Acre, VA to the late William Long and Addie (Washington) Lewis.
Willie was a Vietnam veteran having received at Purple Heart. He also received an Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with Device, Marksman Badge, and the Korea Defense Service Medal. He retired from Consumer Steel in 2003 and enjoyed working. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Painesville VFW and American Legion.
Survivors are his wife, Katie (Washington) Long, his son, Anthony Long of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jamerious Proctor, Cierra McArthur, Kyle Long, and Tierra Long; sisters, Dorothy Lewis, Mary Livingston, Virginia Lewis, Kathleen Lewis, and Sharon Griffith; brothers, James Gridiron, Walter Lewis, Lawrence Lewis, and Stewart Griffith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Emiziah Lewis, Sr.; brothers, Henry Lewis, Emiziah Lewis, Edward Lewis, and Raymond Skinner
Visitation will be Friday, September 15, 2017 from 11-noon at New Hope Baptist Church, 428 W. Jackson St., Painesville, Ohio 44077 with the funeral service following. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
